Gingerbread Challenge

Tuesday December 4 at 3:00 PM
The Gingerbread Returns...

Create a Gingerbread Masterpiece at this returning event. This time, with a peppermint twist! Decorate your house according to our secret theme! Call the library at 330-343-6123 to Register. Registration is limited to 15 this year. BUT, participants are asked (encouraged, nay, BEGGED) to bring a bag of candy decorations to share and a can of white icing.

This was a lot of fun last year (and a lot of work, but we can overlook that). This year, we hope to improve upon it. The Challenge part was an idea from one of you, after all! (You can thank her at the event...) Light refreshments will be provided. Don't plan on eating your house... at least not at the library. At least let me get a picture of it finished and get it to your house first...

BRING A CAN OF WHITE ICING AND A BAG OF CANDY TO DECORATE WITH!

Holiday Mail for Heroes Raffle!

Holiday Mail for Heroes ends in just ONE WEEK, so get to the library to make your card for a service member! Supplies are located in the Teen Zone. Turn your signed card in at the Circulation Desk for a chance to win the Teens' Top Ten novel by Divergent by Veronica Roth.

A Few Reminders to Our Participants:

1. All Cards MUST be SIGNED!
Not only is this a rule from the American Red Cross, but how am I supposed to know who to give this great book to if the card has no name on it?
2. Use Generic Salutations such as "Dear Hero" or "Dear Service Member"
3. Do not include personal contact information, just your name.
4. I also ask that you be Kind to our YA Lounge Table and try to keep it tidy.

I want to thank everyone who has already made a card. As always, you guys are awesome and creative beyond belief! I know our service men and women will greatly appreciate your thoughts and well-wishes.

Craft Club!

Learn How to Knit!

Tuesday November 20th at 3:00 PM

A JoAnn Fabrics & Crafts Stores instructor will be here to teach us the basic knit stitch and how to make a knitted headband. (You can also call this teacher "Liz's Mom.")  Call the library at 330-343-6123 to register.

YOU NEED:
1. A Pair of Size 8 Knitting Needles
2. A Skein (aka package) of Yarn (Mom recommends Caron Simply Soft because it's "snuggly")

I think maybe you might not have heard that. I do not have knitting needles and yarn for you guys. You MUST bring your own. One more time: this time the library is not providing the materials. You need knitting needles and yarn to learn how to knit.

If you forget your stuff, you may stay and have a snack, but you must be quiet and allow the others to learn. If you are disruptive, you will be asked to leave. I give you fair warning.

PS: If you give us your phone number when you register, I will try to call everyone on Monday afternoon to remind you about the supplies.

(Can you tell I learned something from the Kool Aid Play Dough?)

YA Crew November

Tuesday November 13th at 3:00 PM

Join us at the Dover High School Library and share your ideas for the Spring! We'll also be discussing some last-minute details for the Craft Club and for the Gingerbread Challenge. Snacks will be provided. So, if you have an idea, suggestion, or a way we can improve on our Teen Tuesdays, come to the YA Crew meeting! Call the library at 330-343-6123 to register.

As a reminder, to be considered a Full Member of the YA Crew, you :

  1. Must be in grades 7-12
  2.  Come to at least 5 meetings a year
  3.  Participate at meetings
  4.   Volunteer 3 hours a year (Carnival, Haunted Library, and other projects will count.     Helping at teen events will also count.)
  5.  Submit 1 blog post a year (Artwork, short story, poem, video, game review, movie review, book review, etc. Ask Liz if you have an idea! Let's get some teen  content on here!) Submit this post to Liz & she'll post it on the blog.

What do full members get? Something awesome. And, yes, that's code for "Liz hasn't figured that part out yet" and also "Well, it won't matter unless you put something on the blog."

See you all there!
