Thanks to everyone who came to our Glow Tees event! I think everyone had a lot of fun creating their t-shirts. For those of you who missed it, here are some pictures from the event:
Now that you've seen all the fun we had on Tuesday, here's how you can make your own Glow Tee at home!
Supplies Needed (or highly recommended):
Glow-in-the-Dark Puffy Paint (we used 12 pks purchased from Walmart)
Dark T-Shirt
Magazine/Cardboard
Paper Towels
Q-Tips
Chalk/White Marking Pencil
Directions:
1. Spread your T-shirt out on a flat surface, insert the magazine or piece of cardboard into the shirt and position it where your design will be. (This will keep the paint from soaking through the fabric and ruining your shirt.)
2. If desired, with the chalk or marking pencil, draw your design on the T-Shirt. (There is no undo button, kids.)
3. Carefully draw your design with the puffy paint. (Warning: this kind of paint likes to explode sometimes. I suggest doing a practice line on a paper towel or scrap of paper.) Squeeze gently and evenly. Use the Q-Tips to spread the paint thinner, if needed.
4. Make sure you wipe off the tip of the paint bottle when you are finished. This will help to prevent clogs later. (If you do get a clog, a pin or needle can be used to unclog it.)
5. Leave your shirt to dry overnight. When you wash it, turn the shirt inside out. Be careful when taking the shirt from the dryer, as this paint sometimes likes to melt and stick together. Gently pull it back apart, and it should be fine.
Design Ideas:
A Constellation
Zodiac Sybols
Night Scene
Fireworks
A Favorite Quote
Fan-Art
One More Tip:
We had to move our tees, but at home, don't move them until they're done drying! If you do have to move the shirt, and you know you have to move the shirt, maybe try to keep the design small and in the center. That might help. (I didn't realize at the time of the event... Hindsight is 20/20. Remember that, teens.)

Coming Soon
Here are some more books you'll see soon in the YA Area!
The Peculiars by Maureen Doyle McQuerry
"This dark and thrilling adventure, with an unforgettable heroine, will captivate fans of steampunk, fantasy, and romance." (Amazon) Me, I just like the title, and the fact that one of the main characters is a librarian!
(I've also ordered Supernaturally by Kiersten White, Soulbound by Heather Brewer, and Rapture by Lauren Kate)
They've taken on Harry Potter and Twilight. Now they're attacking The Hunger Games. Get a laugh with this graphic novel adaptation of the Harvard Lampoon Spoof (also available in regular fiction)!
(For another laugh, check out F in Exams: The Very Best Totally Wrong Test Answers by Richard Benson)
The story of the original Marathon runner! "In 490BC, an Athenian messenger named Eucles ran 153 miles from Sparta to Athens, and in so doing preserved ancient Greek civilization from subjugation to the Persian Empire. This is his story." (Amazon) Just in time for the Olympic Games!
Yay! Go me! I finally remembered to order these! Get started on this great Manga series suggested to us by a local teen (a couple of times, but I forget things.) If YOU have any ideas for books that we should have, just let me know!
(PS - We're also getting some Death Note, The Earl and the Fairy, and Black Butler)DC Comics: The Ultimate Character Guide by Brandon T. Snider
Finally, some DC stuff for you guys! Marvel has been winning so far this summer, but soon, The Dark Knight Rises will hit theaters and then DC will get the spotlight. Who do you think would win: The Justice League or The Avengers? Get ready for the battle of the comics with this guide.
(Hmm, we're also getting X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga. Marvel may still be winning this one.)
Legend by Marie Lu
Another in a long line of YA Dystopian novels (See The Hunger Games, Matched, Gone, and many others)! This is one that I actually *gasp* missed the first time around! Don't worry, someone told me about it, and now I even have the sequel on my list. Did I miss another one? Tell me and I'll see if I can't remedy that!
(We also have the Gone series because this same person recommended them. See, I listen!)
